Eddie – Ft. Pierce, FL
ESRA Special Needs Springer
ESRA #2009-888FL
Age: 6 years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver and white
Eddie has come into ESRA's care because his family had to leave the country and couldn't take him with them. First
order of business was to have him neutered, a procedure that came with some post-surgery complications. While at the vet
dealing with those issues, it was discovered that Eddie has glaucoma in both eyes. The condition was so advanced in his right
eye that the best decision was to have it removed. Eddie is currently recovering from this surgery but will need continued
care and monitoring for the left eye.
ESRA wants the best for Eddie and asks for your financial assistance to help with his medical expenses. Any amount large or small will be appreciated and is a wonderful way to express your appreciation or to pay tribute to your favorite two-legged or four-legged friends.
UPDATE January 16, 2010 Eddie is having problems with pressure in his other eye and may need to have a drain surgically placed to help relieve the pressure and save the sight in that eye. If that turns out not to be an option or if it doesn't work, unfortunately me may need to have that eye removed as well.
Despite the issues with his eyes, Eddie will be prancing with pride and his foster dad in the Parade of Rescues in Atlanta's Springer Specialty Show next weekend. We'll add photos of that proud moment as soon as we get them!
UPDATE January 28, 2010 Just a brief update on Eddie's progress. The eye doctor says, after his last checkup, that the drops are struggling to keep the pressure down in the eye. He added a fourth drop daily to further lower the pressure. We have decided to do a surgery called gonioimplant with a glaucoma valve — a valve that will release the pressure if it gets too high, hopefully saving the sight. THe surgery is scheduled for February 4, with several daily follow up visits. We'll send another update after surgery to let you know how it goes. Eddie and his foster dad would like to thank everyone for the generous donations to make this possible.
On a happier note, Eddie did indeed make the trip to Atlanta last weekend to walk in the ESRA Parade of Rescues. He met a lot of new people and dogs. He had a great time.
UPDATE February 8, 2010 Eddie's surgery on February 4 went well and is expected to successfully save the sight in his good eye! He will have two more weekly checkups, then followed every three months to make sure the pressure is under control. He is not really thrilled to be wearing a cone again, but through it all he has remained the pleasant, good-natured guy he is.
