Murphy Hudgens Webb
November 13, 1943 – July 23, 2016
Murphy Hudgens Webb died peacefully and surrounded by family and friends on July 23. Murphy was a proud supporter of rescue and Louisiana State University athletics (although not necessarily in that order - it depended on the season). Murphy met his life partner, Amelia Hudson, while she was a professor at LSU. Amelia was already saving Spaniels on her own and Murphy willingly joined in. A fellow rescuer told Amelia about ESRA and a partnership was born. Amelia's dream was to dedicate her retirement to saving dogs, so Murphy directed renovation of her family's Mississippi home for that purpose. When Murphy and Amelia moved to Mississippi, they became special members of that small community. Murphy loved cooking and entertaining family and friends, and endeared himself to everyone he met.
There was nothing cuter than seeing the relationship between Murphy and his little dog. Murphy found the scraggly, starving thing, out in the woods, while on a hunting trip. He took the pup home, nursed him back to health and named him Hobo. They became inseparable.
Amelia and Murphy have fostered over 300 dogs to date! Murphy drove thousands of miles across Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama to pick up Springers and bring them back to foster until they could be placed in their Forever Homes.
ESRA would like to thank the staff of Clarke County Animal Clinic for their continued support of Springer Rescue. ESRA is particularly grateful to Dr. Ashley and her staff for their friendship and support to Amelia during Murphy's illness.
Amelia, we love you!
Murphy, we will miss your welcoming smile, quick wit and awesome cooking. Until we meet again....
