May 9, 1954 – January 29th, 2017
ESRA, sadly, has lost another valued volunteer. Denise Skonieczny-Buehler, 62, passed away on Sunday, January 29th, 2017, from complications of a long-term illness. Predeceased by her loving husband, John, in 2013, Denise was one of ESRA's original members, and she was a friend to our organization's founders, Jan Flagg and Judy Manley. She leaves behind her mother, Corrine, two sisters, Marcia and Janice, and their families.
Born and raised in the Dearborn Heights area of Michigan, Denise resided in Michigan all of her life. It is there that she became an active volunteer with the Midwestern region of ESRA and also other rescue groups in her area. She fostered for our organization and had such a love for Springer Spaniels. At the time of her passing, she was the caregiver "mom" to four of them -- Browning, Bandit, Mia, and Hastings -- three of whom were ESRA adoptees. She had also previously loved and cared for three other Springers and a permanent foster as well, all of whom eventually passed. Her family has made arrangements for the care of the beloved pets who survive her, and ESRA has offered its assistance if needed.
A kind and loving person, Denise loved traveling and working on fundraising for the organizations that she was so active in. Her passing at such a young age is a terrible loss to those who knew and loved her. We find comfort, however, in knowing that she and John are together once again, with several of their furry friends most likely at their sides.
We are grateful to Denise for her many years of service. Please keep her family, and her pets, in your thoughts and prayers as they get through this difficult time.
