Christy Ellen Holmes
May 10, 1972 to Sept. 28, 2016
Dedicated Georgia ESRA volunteer Christy Holmes passed away suddenly on Sept. 28. Christy is survived by her husband Matthew, children Emma and Nicholas, mother Teresa, sisters Wendy and Molly and adopted ESRA Springers Holly and Charley.
Christy fostered and transported numerous ESRA dogs, conducted home visits and phone interviews and organized special events like Georgia’s annual Parade of Rescue. And she did all this while working full time as a senior paralegal for LexisNexis Risk Solutions and coordinating school and sporting activities for her young family.
Chris was also a gifted tennis player and a huge supporter of her children’s school and sports activities, never missing the chance to cheer on son Nick at his baseball or lacrosse games and daughter Emma at her tennis matches. Just two days after Christy passed away, Emma was voted Homecoming Queen at her high school. Her mom would have been so proud!
Here are a few comments from ESRA volunteers who were fortunate enough to know Christy.
"Chris' energy, enthusiasm and tenacity were boundless. She once had a middle-aged foster dog who had lived outside his whole life, so was not housetrained. Chris would sleep with his leash around her wrist so that if he got up during the night, it would wake her up and she could take him outside. She certainly raised her children to love and respect dogs as well."
"I am so saddened to hear this news. Chris was so vibrant and beautiful both inside and out and had such an enthusiasm for life. My heart goes out to her family and friends. She will be missed by all of us. Chris adopted Holly out a bad owner turn-in situation and did amazing things with her to help her adjust, along with the help of Charley, of course."
"Chris made many contributions to ESRA in various ways. Even her children would sell lemonade and donate the proceeds to ESRA. She left the world better than when she arrived and heaven will certainly be enriched by Chris’ presence."
"We're stunned and saddened as well. Chris was our first contact when we were introduced to ESRA. She did our phone interview and home visit and what a delight she was! Many of you will remember that when we brought Buffy and Iko to participate in the Parade of Rescue in 2011, Iko was a wild man to say the least. Chris helped us calm him down. We're so devastated for her young family."
